This week, the PGA Tour presents the FanDuel/DFS community with the Houston Open. Let’s take a look at this event from a fantasy golf perspective!
Before I discuss my FanDuel player selections I wanted to clearly state that the purpose of this article is not to provide a specific lineup. Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a FanDuel GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!
Here are my FanDuel player selections for the Houston Open!
Russell Henley $11,200
Since the beginning of July, Henley has played ten events on the PGA Tour. In those ten events just mentioned, Henley has five top nine finishes, including a third place finish at the CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek.
Due to the fact that Henley played rather well at the CJ Cup, I decided to dive into the player statistics for that event to see how he performed relative to the field. I came away rather impressed.
Upon completion of four rounds of competitive play at the CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek, in relation to the field, Henley ranked 11th in GIR (greens in regulation-70.8%) and fourth in putts per GIR (1.588).
Zach Johnson $10,600
The two time major champion has three consecutive top 23 finishes on the PGA Tour, including an eighth place result at the U.S. Open.
In relation to this week’s current listed Houston Open field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Johnson ranks first in bogey avoidance, second in GIR (greens in regulation), fifth in strokes gained putting, and sixth in strokes gained approach.
Doc Redman $10,400
In my opinion, the former Clemson Tiger is on the verge of winning his first event on the PGA Tour. After all, the best predictor of a golfer’s future performance is past performance. Redman has three top four finishes in his last six events on the PGA Tour, including a fourth place result at last week’s Bermuda Championship.
James Hahn $9,700
The 38 year old American arrives at this week’s Houston Open on the heels of three consecutive top nine finishes on the PGA Tour, including a ninth place result at the Safeway Open.
Denny McCarthy $9,600
The American has two top six finishes in his last three events on the PGA Tour, including a fourth place result at the Bermuda Championship last week.
In relation to this week’s current listed Houston Open field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Denny ranks first in birdie or better percentage and 11th in strokes gained putting.
Matthew NeSmith $8,300
The 27 year old fired a third round 64 at the Shriners Hospitals For Children Open on his way to an eventual eighth place result three weeks ago. After four rounds of competitive play at the Shriners Hospitals For Children Open, in relation to the field, NeSmith ranked fourth in GIR (86.1%), 13th in driving accuracy (75%), and 14th in putts per GIR (1.661).
